Welcome!

I created this blog with the desire to make lunch simple, fun and healthy. I had turned to bento to make this possible.
I live with my husband and our adorable pets and we live a fairly busy life so, being able to have a fast fun lunch makes it easier to save money and eat healthy. Bento is for everyone, not just children, and I strive to inspire people to make lunch an exciting aspect of their day, instead of the same old monotonous task and boring foods which inevitably lead to spending too much money on cafeteria food or fast food, or skipping meals all together.
This blog really has grown to be so much more than I had originally invisioned! It really incorporates my love for local and fresh food and making meals fun and tasty, not just lunch! There is great potential for all meals and bento still really inspires me, but I also really enjoy being inspired by the local farmer's market, and different books and I think the blog has really taken off to so much more than just a bento blog. I hope you feel inspired and enjoy it as much as I do!

Caribbean Resort Food

Just got back from my honeymoon in St. Lucia and thought I would share some pictures of the food that we ate while we were there. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of some of the more gourmet meals we had, but I thought I would share with you the pictures I did take.

One day for lunch I had a fajita, and some eggplant and tomato curry on rice and some steamed carrots. The curry was so good... I really want to find a recipe to try to make this myself. If I do find one that is similar I will be sure to upload the results to you all.

Prosciutto and melon balls with a dijon mustard sauce.
This was very tasty. I tried prosciutto with melon for the first time at one of the other restaurant on the resort and thought it was great, so when I saw it on the menu a different night I did not hesitate to order it again :).

Tomato and Fish Bisque.
My husband tells me it was quite good.

The chicken chiquita. It was stuffed with cheese and sundried tomato.
It was very tender and tasty.

One night they had an Asian themed buffet.

Here is all the sushi! I believe all the sushi had cooked fish however.

They had a stir-fry station set up. You could fill your bowl with all the vegetables you like, and then bring them to the chef and they would cook them up with chicken, beef, shrimp or combinations of the three options.

I got lots of veggies, some chicken and some beef. it was very good.

Well that covers all the food pictures from my honeymoon. I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into the culinary aspect of my honeymoon.
Until next time, happy munching!

Japanese Cuisine in St. Lucia?!

Believe it or not, I recently got married! After our lovely wedding we went on a honeymoon to St. Lucia.

Who would have thought that then they went to the caribbean that they would find a Japanese restaurant? Well we did!
There was a restaurant called Kimono!

When we got into Kimono, they showed us the menu, and we all chose an appetized, but everyone gets the emperor's feast!

I ordered the spring rolls...

And my husband got the sushi....

Our chef made a volcano of fire in the middle of the fried rice...

Food from Our Emperor's Feast:

Prawns with black bean sauce and sliced pineapple:

Chicken marinated in Miso Paste, sesame seeds and Teriyaki Sauce:

Stir-Fried Vegetables:

Beef marinated with spices, served with snow peas and shitake mushroom and Japanese style peppercorn sauce:

And I forgot to take a picture of the dessert, sorry! But it was also good. We tried some of both. Though I definitely preferred the coconut spring roll best. :)

Everything we were served at Kimono was delicious and we never had to ask for a refill on our drinks, the next one would show up just as we were finishing our previous one. It has a bit of island flavour to the Japanese cuisine, but it is still tasty and it was a great experience and part of our honeymoon. This restaurant is often booked up so reservations have to be made as soon as you arrive!

Hope this Island-Asian Cuisine has been interesting to you!
Until next time, happy munching!
